Sunev of the Perel is roughly the size of a large dog, which makes him normal adult size for his race. (This measurement is snout to rump, so it leaves out his long tail.) He has four legs, two wings, a prehensile tail, and a fondness for all things apple.
Sunev's intelligence appears to hover between that of a stupid humanoid and a clever beast, but this may be affectation. Either way, he uses what he has in attempts to get apples, his favourite treat. Unusually for a Perel, Sunev is able to scratch his own name in several forms of writing and mostly follow human conversation, which makes him an ideal sort of diplomat for his people.
The Perel do not speak, write, or have a language of their own. They communicate through posture and trilling. If taught while young, a Perel is capable of learning humanoid language to a degree, but they will never be fluent; their brains simply aren't wired for language. This extends to listening and writing only — the Perel lack the vocal cords required for speech, limiting their vocalisations to trills and hums.
Telepathy is not native to the Perel and at least one kind is known to give Sunev a headache. Perel brains are unable to process direct language input through telepathic link. Mind contact using images and other sensory input doesn't cause this problem, though it may tickle.
